Khoirudin, student of Fashion Design Program LaSalle College Jakarta has been selected as the First Winner of Next Young Promising Designer (NYPD) 2018 fashion design competition.
NYPD is an annual event that is held in conjunction with the Jakarta Fashion and Food Festival (JFFF), in partnership with Cita Tenun Indonesia, a non-profit organization that focuses on developing and empowering the traditional Indonesian weaving textiles. Moh. Rizky Julpra Yengky succeeded in impressing the board of juries with his collection 'Symbolism of Majapahit' a collection that is inspired by the ancient Kingdom of Indonesia called Majapahit.
The new talent is expected to be able to run the fashion business by not forgetting Indonesia's cultural roots, through various archipelago fabrics. Among them is IKAT. With the theme 'Embracing Handwoven The Indonesian Heritage' NYPD again received a warm reception from prospective fashion designers who mostly came from fashion school students and alumni. Inclouding LaSalle College Jakarta's alumni.
The participants were asked to make a ready to wear fashion concept using Indonesian woven fabrics. This concept is then translated into six design sketches along with an explanation.
"The design must meet the composition of 70 (%) percent woven fabric and 30 (%) percent other attachments. From the results of the selection of the jury selected 10 participants whose work was able to captivate," said Ms. Cut Meutia, JFFF Deputy Chairman.
