Field Trip to The Distillery Letterpress

Digital Media Design Program field trip to The Distillery Letterpress for a specific Prepress class. The visit includes a workshop in this classical, yet now artisan printing process of letter pressing. The visit was done on Tuesday, October 10th 2017 and we were greeted by Karen Djuanda, the General Manager of the establishment. 


     




     



     

Letterpress is one of the oldest form of printing. In this method, a surface with raised letters is inked and pressed to the surface of the printing substrate to reproduce an image in reverse. In this modern day letterpress, it allows the printed material to be presented in a more artisan and hand-made approach that could not be compared to the digital process.

Students workshop included color mixing, guillotine styled paper cutting and trimming and the printing itself. See the video below!
