This past Tuesday, November 22nd 2016, Fashion Design Program students of LaSalle College Jakarta had the privilege of having a class lecture by the renowned Indonesian fashion designer Auguste Soesastro. Mr. Soesastro is the founder of Kraton, a bespoke clothing brand established in New York, USA, on 2008. Having the privileges to grow up and study in different parts of the world, he established his sense of art and design differently than most Indonesian designers. He is one of the very few Indonesian people who had the privilege to study haute couture directly in Paris at the École de la Chambre Syndicale de la Couture Parisienne. After he graduated, he had the chance to work in several couture houses in Paris such as Givenchy, Pierre Balmain, to name a few, before he moved to United States and worked for Ralph Rucci. Therefore, his skills are of course, indisputable.

In the class lecture, Mr. Soesastro explained in detail regarding his background, his passion in fashion, the DNA behind his brand, Kraton and Kromo, and his recent works. He also thoroughly explained the factors that are important when building your own brand, such as having a business partner, knowing your target market, having the proper manpower, and resources in production. All the students and lecturers sat in awe as he presented his latest work, Architecture of Work, an exhibition which was held from September 15-24, 2016 in Dia.Lo.Gue ArtSpace, Kemang.

At the end of the lecture, many students asked Mr. Soesastro a lot of questions, and he gladly answered them clearly one by one. It was such an eye opening experience for all of us who attended the lecture. This kind of event will surely be held again in the near future.
